Jaromír Hanzlík deliberately tarnished the reputation of his colleague and friend Viktor Preiss

Thanks to the rich archive of Czech Television, this week we commemorate the admirable artistic career of actor Viktor Preiss and his seventieth birthday. It’s really hard to say which of the hundreds of roles he created on stage, in film and television is the most memorable. Jaromír Hanzlík’s relaxed talk show “Smiles of Viktor Preiss” helped the witnesses to “dust off” some of them, in which these two close colleagues and friends took a really good balance.

They even initially put two red clown noses on their noses to embarrass the myth that Viktor Preiss is listed as a “decent man” and a “serious actor.” He himself made it clear at the beginning of the engaging conversation that he liked the joke and joked that he had spent at least a third in the “declining genre” during the many years of his theatrical career. Looking back on this genre, they started with a demonstration of one of the scenes that took place in the theatrical play “Her Majesty’s General” and Viktor Preiss certainly did not spare pepper. Another record, this time from the famous production “Crack on the Lagoon”, is proof that Viktor Preiss was able to evoke repeated bursts of laughter in the audience with his comic creations.

Shibal Viktor

With considerable taste, Jaromír Hanzlík then included ticklish excerpts from the many loving roles of Viktor Preiss, which included, for example, the “Flight of a Horse Dealer” or “Scapin’s Mischief”. He really had something to do in them to resist the temptations of sinful beauties played by Jana Paulová or Kateřina Macháčková. And what they performed together with the naked Markéta Hrubešová in the film “Angel’s Eyes” can be, without exaggeration, one of the most erotic scenes ever shot in our country: “So Jarouska, after this you really managed to tarnish my reputation as a serious actor,” Viktor Preiss voted her smiling.

From Mozart to Hasler

After that, however, Jaromír Hanzlík tried to repair the reputation of his acting colleague by giving him space to remember the famous figures of history, which he created during his career. These included, for example, JK Tyl, Jiří Wolker, Denis Diderot, WA Mozart, Robert Schumann, Alexandr Dumas Jr. and even Jánošík. However, television viewers usually think of him as Karel Hašler from the excellent series “Pražský písničkář”, dedicated to the tragic life story of a famous Czech actor, composer and singer.

At present, we can recall the varied mosaic of Viktor Preiss’ television roles thanks to another rerun of the legendary Czech Television series “Hospital on the Edge of the City”, in which Přemek Rezek broke the heart of the beautiful Dr. Čeňková as a hockey player.
