Jarmila Kratochvílová: The regime cannot be forgiven for boycotting the Olympics

IN TODAY’S EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN, AMONG OTHER THINGS:
  • World record from Munich (1:50)
  • Controversy surrounding the South African Semenya (9:50)
  • Sausages for breakfast (12:19)
  • Extreme training sessions at four in the morning (19:01)
  • Boycott of the Olympics in Los Angles (34:45)
  • From competitor to coach (41:50)

“I’ve already learned to live with that record. I’ve been afraid that someone will beat him for decades, and I often have a stopwatch in my hand on TV,” says the world record holder in the Dobojováno podcast.

A native of Golčov Jeníkov tells about the extreme training doses prescribed by trainer Miroslav Kváč. “I got up at four in the morning and went to train, then I normally went to work,” recalls Kratochvílová.

In the podcast, the world record holder also talks about the boycott of the Olympic Games in 1984, which, like many other Czechoslovak athletes, she did not go to because of the political decision of the then regime. “I think it’s unforgivable,” he says.

Would South Africa’s Semenya break the world record if it weren’t for the rule change? How does she experience the races of her charges as a coach? And why did she never exchange meat and sausages for a “healthy” diet? He talks about all this in today’s episode, which he watch the video or play it in the audio player at the beginning of the article. (The interview took place before the end of this year’s World Championships in Athletics in the United States)

What is a podcast and why don’t you call it Czech?
Podcasts are recordings of the spoken word placed on the Internet where anyone can play them. The advantage of podcasts compared to radio broadcasts is the possibility to listen to your favorite program anytime and anywhere. If you’re on your way to work, on vacation or don’t want to spend the evening staring at the TV, you only need to have your mobile phone with you, ideally headphones. The English word podcast comes from the combination of the words iPod and broadcast, there is no established equivalent in Czech yet. Podcasts since last year they also publish News.
