Transgender, black, lesbian, plus size and activist model Jari Jones became the new face of the Calvin Klein brand.
Jari Jones identifies as a lesbian, trans, queer and is part of a campaign that Calvin Klein launched to celebrate Pride month; Furthermore, she is a happy supporter of the #BlackLivesMatter movement.
In the Proud in my Calvins campaign, Jones mentions that she sees herself as a mother figure to LGBT + youth with dreams in New York City, trying to provide them with a home until they can get everything on their own.
The activist revealed that she does it for two reasons: it is difficult to start life, and secondly, being a person of color, queer and trans makes it more difficult.
Likewise, as part of the campaign, Jari advised the LGBT + community not to let bad comments affect them:
“Know that heterosexuality is not the hierarchy and that being something different from what society considers ‘regular’ is just as good, maybe even better”
Through her social media, she shared a postcard to celebrate listing at the American fashion house.
The image shows the model with a bottle of champagne. The post is accompanied by an inspiring message:
“I got tired of looking for those moments. So I decided to create them. Not for me, but for the next dreamer, outcast, fagot, trans, disabled, fat, beautiful black, piece of starlight waiting for his moment to shine. ”
Jones said he hopes this collaboration will be for the LGBT + community ‘the hope that they see each other more clearly than ever and realize that they are worthy of celebration, compassion, love and gratitude.’
