Japan’s Digital Minister plans to install My Number Card function for smartphones

At a press conference on the 9th, Digital Minister Taro Kono talked about future plans for installing the My Number card function for smartphones.

Mr. Kono

From May 11th, you will be able to access Mynaportal from your Android smartphone without reading your My Number card. “You don’t need to enter your PIN, and you can access Mynaportal with your smartphone’s biometric authentication. I think it will be more convenient,” said Mr. Kono.

Initially, it will support services using Mynaportal, and after that, it will gradually support private services such as account opening, mobile phone contract, and cashless payment application. Mr. Kono commented, “At the earliest, private services will be able to respond by the end of May.”

As a future plan, it is said that the convenience store issuing service of certificates using My Number Card will be available only with smartphones by the end of the year. In addition, in April of next year, we will make it possible to use the My Number Card as a health insurance card only with a smartphone without the card.

Regarding the use of the iPhone, “I want to do it as soon as possible” (Mr. Kono).

Mr. Kono expressed his enthusiasm for the future, saying, “I would like to coordinate with related ministries and agencies so that various administrative procedures can be completed with a single smartphone.”
