In China, as anti-Japanese sentiment escalated due to the discharge of contaminated water from nuclear power plants, Japanese restaurants began to put out notices one after another saying that they do not use Japanese seafood.

Travel agencies are canceling reservations for travel products in Japan one after another.

A Japanese buffet restaurant in Beijing.

It’s usually a place where there are so many customers that there is a long waiting line, but there are empty seats everywhere.

Perhaps because of people who are anxious about the discharge of contaminated water from the nuclear power plant, the restaurant staff emphasizes that they do not use Japanese ingredients at all.

″All of them are made in Korea. Imports from Japan are banned, right?”

This Japanese restaurant in Tianjin has covered the words Japan written on the glass wall with paper.

There is also a line of Japanese restaurants that put up a notice saying that they do not use Japanese ingredients.

As safety concerns and anti-Japanese sentiment escalated, customers decreased, and Japanese restaurants in China started to draw a line with Japan.

Even in the sushi corner of a large supermarket, a notice was posted saying that they do not use Japanese products, so be at ease.

China has allowed group tours to Japan since the 10th, but reservations have been canceled one after another after the discharge of contaminated water.

″I was looking into getting a visa because air tickets to Japan were so cheap, but I’m thinking about it again because of the contaminated water incident at the nuclear power plant.″

On the homepage of a large online travel agency in China, Japanese products have been moved to an unobtrusive place, and a travel agency in Zhejiang Province has declared that it will not sell Japanese travel products at all.

″I am not going to Japan for the time being. It is because they are concerned about whether food and the environment are safe because of the discharge of contaminated water from the nuclear power plant.″

As the state media are also criticizing and encouraging the discharge of contaminated water, it seems that it will not be easy for the anti-Japanese sentiment in China to ease for the time being.
