Princess Mako

Mako lost her status as a member of the imperial house due to her marriage to a commoner and is now preparing to move to the United States.

The Japanese princess Mako, who lost her status after the wedding, and her husband, Japanese-American Kei Komuro, are planning to rent a one-room apartment in New York. This was reported by the agency NHK.-

It is noted that while the couple will live in Tokyo – Mako must issue a passport and visa to the United States. The fact is that members of the Japanese imperial family do not have passports, so the princess will receive this document for the first time.

In New York, the newly minted family intends to settle in a one-bedroom apartment, which they will pay for themselves. Komuro will pursue a career in law, while Mako plans to look for work.

Recall that the princess is the niece of Emperor Naruhito and the daughter of Crown Prince Fumihito. Due to her marriage to a commoner, she lost her status as a member of the imperial house and became an ordinary citizen of Japan.

Mako met her chosen one during her studies. In 2017, the couple announced their engagement, and planned a wedding in a year. However, due to a financial scandal in the groom’s family, the marriage had to be postponed.

Note that Mako refused to compensate the government in the amount of 153 million yen ($ 1.35 million) due to princesses leaving the courtyard, as well as from a ceremonial wedding and banquet.

As a result, on October 26 a modest ceremony took place, after which the newlyweds made statements and handed out written answers to journalists to five pre-selected questions.-
