Japanese car manufacturers conduct race test with cleaner fuel | Financial

The event will take place in Okoyama in western Japan, the companies said. The car used by Toyota is powered by a hydrogen engine. The racing Mazda runs on biodiesel. Auto group Subaru says it wants to participate in the event next year with an engine that runs on synthetic fuel derived from biomass.

Breed scala

There is a common belief among Japanese car manufacturers that a wide range of vehicle types can play a role in decarbonising the car industry in the coming years. In addition to electric and hybrid models, this also concerns cars that run on hydrogen.

The vision of the Japanese contrasts with that of other car manufacturers, such as General Motors, Jaguar Land Rover and Volvo, which announced that they only wanted to sell electric models in the long term.

The move to engines powered by carbon neutral fuels is also an attempt to save some of the hundreds of thousands of jobs related to combustion engines and power plant components. It is expected that if the car sector were to switch completely to electric driving, this would cost many Japanese their jobs.

According to Toyota, traditional engines only need minor adjustments. This involves changing the fuel supply and injection systems to make them suitable for driving on hydrogen, the company reported during a briefing last month.
