Japan is going to discharge wastewater from destroyed nuclear reactor in Fukushima into the sea

Reliable Japanese media are now reporting that some of that wastewater would soon be discharged into the sea. The Japanese government says that a formal decision has not yet been taken, but that it cannot be delayed too long.

According to the newspaper Asahi, it would take another two years before the first water would end up in the sea. After all, it must first be filtered to remove the most harmful substances before the diluted water ends up in the ocean. According to the Tokyo Electric company that owns the plant, all radioactive materials would be removed from the wastewater, except for tritium. The latter is very difficult to clear away and would not be very harmful, the company said.
