Janine Bischops (80) has had a few tough years and has already crawled through the eye of the needle a few times. That happened again last month, the actress tells Dag Alles: “The doctor said: ‘Had you waited another week, it would have been fatal.'”

Last summer Janine suddenly felt a pressure on her chest and she had to go to the hospital. She was given two stents in her veins and prescribed blood thinners that she absolutely had to keep taking to avoid having a heart attack, but they were now playing tricks on her. Because she would have taken too many so that her iron level was very low.

“Last month I suddenly started bleeding profusely,” she says, “but it didn’t stop. I lost a lot of blood for six weeks straight. I looked white as a corpse and was dead tired, it just couldn’t go on anymore.” It was her daughter who forced Janine to go to the doctor, and she was immediately clear: if she had waited any longer, the ailment could have been too much.

It is not the first time that Bischops has to deal with health problems. “In August 2020 I lost consciousness. I had finished two rabbit legs with chips and drunk two glasses of wine. Shortly afterwards, the light suddenly went out. I woke up hours later in the pitch dark at the bottom of the stairs in a pool of blood,” said the actress.

“I crawled into my bed without even cleaning up that pee. The next day I had a huge bump on my head and my bed was also stained with blood. At the hospital, the neurologist said I was lucky. If that swelling had settled inside my head, I might not have been able to retell it.” But although she had been lucky, Janine noticed that she suddenly could no longer remember texts: “That had never happened to me, I was so ashamed”.

Meanwhile, Janine is doing better and is ready to take life with both hands again.
