Although, from a purely sporting point of view, both teams of the Crefeld HTC were not at stake, it was a special day for the active players and the around 500 spectators at the Gerd-Wellen facility. On the one hand, the teams were happy about their victories at the end of the season, on the other hand, well-deserving athletes were said goodbye on and off the field.

The focus was clearly on Janick Eschler, who also shed a tear or two that day and was duly celebrated by everyone on and off the pitch. With one short break, the offensive player wore the Krefeld men’s jersey from 2008 and experienced numerous ups and downs. The 31-year-old, who captained the team that day, was in the Final Four with the Krefeld team both on the field in 2015 and indoors in 2018, and saw numerous coaches and teammates. He identifies with the CHTC through and through and also made it into the second division, where he was an important factor in the sovereign resurgence. Although he has struggled with injuries from time to time in the past, he did not let them throw him off course and, with his assertiveness and nose for goals, is rightly a “CHTC legend”, as captain Linus Michler put it when saying goodbye.

In terms of sport, the men left on Saturday in a clear 6:3 (4:2) victory at Blau-Weiss Köln, in which Luis Holste came up trumps with a hat trick and Anton Boomes scored twice, as well as in the 2:1 home win the day after don’t burn anything against black and white Cologne. In a hard-fought game on Sunday, Nicolas Acosta and a penalty corner by Linus Michler ensured the 21st win of the season.

The club will start the new season with a new coach, as Ronan Gormley, who was active for the CHTC for a long time both as a player and as a coach, will resign. With the players Neal Glassey, Nathan Fouhy and Mats Hedemann, the men have more departures.

The women’s season ended with a 3-0 (2-0) home win against DSD Düsseldorf, which saw the Krefeld women climb to second place in the table and crown the season. With great commitment and good moves again and again, they held up against the robust Düsseldorf team and earned the last three points of the season with a brace from the strong Leni Hamacher and a goal from Sharon Seaton. The young squad, in which numerous players are in their early 20s and some are still eligible to play for the U18s, will have to do without Jule Schuurman, Mara Küskes and Jule Hufer, who are spending a year abroad in the USA, as well as Stella Gebhard and Sharon in the coming season Seaton will no longer be there. “We had a great season with a young team and are happy about second place. We still have some room for improvement in the end of the goal,” says coach André Schiefer.
