He Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro tested positive for a new coronavirus test he underwent on Tuesday, CNN Brazil reported this Wednesday, quoting the president.

Bolsonaro, 65, confirmed that he will remain in isolation in the Alvorada palace, his official residence in Brasilia, from where he dispatches by videoconference, following medical recommendations.

Skeptical of the pandemic and contrary to the quarantines applied in the states, Bolsonaro had said Monday in a telephone dialogue with the same channel that he was eagerly awaiting this new RT-PCR test: “I can’t stand this routine of staying at home, it’s horrible” .

RT-PCR tests detect the presence of the virus genome in secretions extracted with a swab from the patient’s nose or mouth.

The president told a channel reporter on Wednesday that since July 6 he has not had symptoms: without fever, without breathing problems or with loss of sense of taste, one of the most common symptoms of covid-19.

He also assured that he continues to be treated with hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug whose efficacy against the virus is not scientifically proven and which generates a strong debate in the international scientific community.

The report indicates that it will undergo new tests “in the coming days.”

Since he was diagnosed, Bolsonaro, accustomed to an active routine that included going outside to greet his supporters, has been forced to remain in Alvorada, in the company only of people who have already had the coronavirus.

In addition to videoconferences and some activity on his social networks, Bolsonaro has been seen feeding the rheas in the gardens of the official residence. One of them got to peck him.

Brazil is the second country with more cases and more deaths from coronavirus, behind the United States. As of Tuesday, more than 74,000 deaths and 1.9 million confirmed cases were registered.
