Jacksonville Jaguars entlassen Running Back Leonard Fournette

After Yannick Ngakoue’s trade, the Jacksonville Jaguars pulled a ripcord shortly before the start of the season and set the course for the future: The Jags announced on Monday that they had fired running back Leonard Fournette.

According to NFL-Network-Insider Ian Rapoport had tried the Jaguars for several months to trade Fournette, apparently without success. Just before the start of the season, Jacksonville pulled the rip cord.

The Jags had previously decided not to take the 5th year option for Fournette. He would have gone into his last year of contract and cashed in four million dollars. Jacksonville created more financial leeway and parted ways with a player who was not always well received off the field.

Jaguars drafted Fournette through Mahomes and Watson

From Jaguars’ point of view, Fournette is remembered as the player that the franchise selected with the number 4 pick in 2017 in the hope of relieving Blake Bortles and attacking Blake Bortles in this way with a strong defense. In the same draft, Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes later went to Houston and Kansas City, respectively.

The running back, who can only really score points as a power runner in his one-dimensional style of play, will now run through the waiver wire. Teams can insert a claim for him there; the team with the highest waiver priority receives it. If no team makes a claim, Fournette becomes a free agent.
