From cabaret performer Claudia de Breij to bridge celebrity Anton Maas. 2,828 Dutch people are today awarded royally for their contribution to society. Among them are 998 women and 1,830 men.
As of today, the Netherlands has gained 18 Knights of the Order of the Netherlands Lion. In addition, 49 Officers, 325 Knights and 2,436 Members have been appointed in the Order of Oranje-Nassau.
Oldest ever
The oldest decorated is Mary Benjamin. The 110-year-old Aruban volunteer centipede is, as far as can be ascertained, the oldest person ever to receive a royal decoration.
The 35-year-old Marleen Mulders from Tilburg is the youngest person to receive a ribbon this year. Mulders has been appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau, partly because of her commitment to the Association of Parents and Children with Cancer and the Youth and Cancer Foundation.

Ribbon rain limited in the North
Residents in the north of the country receive a ribbon less often than residents from the south. RTL Nieuws looked at how many ribbons have been given to residents per village and municipality since 2016. Especially in northern municipalities, the number of residents with a distinction is limited.
In Utrecht’s Oudewater and Gulpen-Wittem in South Limburg, it ‘rained’ the hardest in recent years, just as on a number of Wadden Islands. In Gulpen-Wittem, no fewer than 52 of the more than 14,000 inhabitants received a ribbon in the past 5 years. In the Frisian municipality of Weststellingwerf, on the other hand, only 6 of the almost 26,000 inhabitants received an award.
