“It’s our duty”: Saint-Denis salutes the memory of Derrar El Hadj, Algerian rifleman and liberator of the city

We do not know his face and we still know very little about his career. This Sunday at 9 a.m. at the Muslim cemetery in Bobigny, then at noon at Place de la Résistance in Saint-Denis, a public tribute will be paid to Derrar El Hadj, a soldier from Algeria who participated in the Liberation of France during the Second World War. This member of the second armored division (2nd Armored Division) was mortally wounded during the fighting to liberate Plaine Saint-Denis on August 28, 1944.
