General Chairman of the Nahdlatul Ulama Executive Board (PBNU) KH Yahya Cholis Staquf or Gus Yahya called PAN a rational party. He also said that there was no prohibition for NU members to vote for PAN in the election.
“We know that PAN has transformed in such a way, is more rational and goes through a natural, natural process. In PAN there is no drama of party theft, because everything is normal and has become more rational, even sowan to the NU kiai cleric masyaallah,” said Gus Yahya, in his remarks at the NU centennial commemoration event held by PAN, reported by detikJatim, Saturday (18/2/2023).
“I can’t vote for PAN, I can’t. Moreover, I’m also not a PAN cadre, to be honest. But I am the general chairman (PBNU), I must say that NU members are not illegal to vote for PAN,” he continued.
It is known, PAN held an event commemorating one century of NU with the title ‘National Symposium’ at the Sheraton Hotel Surabaya. The event was attended by PAN Ketum Zulkfili Hasan, PBNU Ketum KH Yahya Cholil Staquf, PBNU Secretary General Saifullah Yusuf, and East Java DPW PAN board members.
Gus Yahya also joked about the abbreviation of PAN. “Although yes, PAN still becomes the National Mandate Party and does not have to change to the Will NU Party,” he added.
Meanwhile, responding to Gus Yahya’s statement, PAN Ketum Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) said his party continued to work hard to strengthen unity.
“Yes, we are like this, indeed this political party’s function is to advance civilization. Therefore, PAN is trying hard so that the Muslim community strengthens unity, unity even though they are different,” said Zulhas after the NU One Century Commemoration event which was held by PAN in Surabaya, Saturday ( 18/2/2023).
