It’s better to follow the penalty shoot-out than to watch from the bench

Jakarta

Croatia already passed two penalty kicks World Cup 2022. Croatian captain Luca Modric he doesn’t always take the penalty.

Croatia had to go through a penalty shoot-out in the round of 16 against Japan after a 1-1 draw until extra time. Zlatko Dalic’s men won 3-1 on penalties.

Croatia again had to fight until a penalty shoot-out against Brazil in the quarter-finals. This time Vatreni beat the five-time world champion 4-2 in a high-five shootout.

Modric did not take part in the penalty shoot-out against Japan as he was taken off in extra time. Meanwhile, in the match against Brazil, the Real Madrid midfielder was one of the successful performers.

For Modric, being one of the penalty takers is better than just watching from the bench. He felt he could help the team more by being the penalty taker.

“It’s worse when you’re not on the pitch, you’re just watching from the bench and you can’t help,” Modric told RTVE.

“The tension is very high and it’s not easy, it’s much worse. It’s also (taking the penalty) not easy. You have to be calm, confident, but it’s better than not taking penalties,” he said.

Croatia will face Argentina in the semifinals World Cup 2022. From Argentina vs Croatia will be held at Lusail Iconic Stadium, Lusail on Wednesday (14/12/2022) at morning WIB.
