A rare white-feathered snowy owl that normally resides in the Arctic has been spotted in a Southern California home for the first time in more than 100 years.
Bird watchers from all over the US state, who stopped by for hours to try and photograph and view the rare bird, confirmed that this bird hadn’t been sighted in this area before for more than 100 years.
The path taken by the owl to travel more than 2,000 miles south of the North Pole is still a mystery to experts, as these birds only live in the polar regions.
The bird was seen several times during the week in a number of areas on the roofs of buildings, which piqued the curiosity of passers-by for its striking shape, according to US media.
Interestingly, the Snowy Owl is native to the Arctic tundra and has white feathers with some black (spotted) dots, which allow it to hide in the snow, and currently only an estimated 30,000 live.
