Itamar Mann has a proposal for the problem of the West Bank annexation: creating a wave like in South Africa or America in the 50s

After three elections in which he failed to form a majority to govern, Benjamin Netanyahu finally held the post of Prime Minister of Israel. The promise to annex more than 30% of the West Bank, a territory on the west bank of the Jordan River that Palestinians see as an integral part of a future state, won the nationalist votes. There are those who question, however, if it is not about electoral playthings, that is, a measure that will remain, for now, behind one of those glasses that prohibit access to an ax and say “use in case of emergency”.

Itamar Mann is a professor of law at the University of Haifa, Israel, where he has investigated territorial conflicts and human rights. A few years ago, he advocated a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. Today he sees this scenario in the distance, as the fairest, but he does not believe it is possible. In search of a more realistic path to peace, he defends in an interview with the Express that the Palestinians must create a political movement and demand the right to vote, if or when they are annexed. For many of their Palestinian friends this position is millimeters from the betrayal. They are asked how they might want to vote to choose the government of a country that subjugates them. Wouldn’t they lose all legitimacy to demand independence? Mann thinks they are wrong and that the Palestinian vote could be the end of the occupation.

Today is the official day of the beginning of the annexation process, but some say that the plan may never come to fruition. A Netanyahu biographer thinks it is pure electoralism. Is that your opinion?
There will be a very limited form of attachment for now. And even that plan is shrouded in uncertainty. It will be determined by the political needs at one time or another.
