Huge bicycle shed opened at The Hague CS | station Inland

The bicycle shed would actually be in use a few months ago, but that was delayed by the corona virus.

Seventeen well-known Hague buildings are depicted on the walls of the new bicycle shed. The Ridderzaal, the Peace Palace and the Art Museum can be seen over a surface of over a thousand square meters.

Two towers of approximately 90 meters must rise on top of the underground parking facility. This will include shops, homes and catering. Construction will begin later this year. For visitors, the square at the station should become an entrance to the city center. It is not known how much the construction will cost.

Years of quarreling preceded the construction. First, a 93-meter-high tower by Rem Koolhaas would rise on Koningin Julianaplein (‘KJ-plein’). The M-shaped building would contain homes and offices. The square had already been broken up and the land was being prepared for construction, but in 2010 The Hague still pulled the plug because of financial risks. The square was paved again, after which a new design was made.

The Hague CS station itself has also undergone extensive renovation in recent years, as has the surrounding area. In the coming years, The Hague wants to build many residential towers around the stations CS, Hollands Spoor and Laan of NOI to accommodate the expected population growth. The Hague currently has about 540,000 inhabitants and another 100,000 will probably be added in the next twenty years.
