Italy exceeds 19 thousand new cases, Spain records 19,581 and United Kingdom passes 20 thousand – Executive Digest

These are the figures for the last 24 hours regarding the situation caused by covid-19 in Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom.

Spain

The Spanish Ministry of Health registered an additional 19,851 new infections, which brings the total number of cases since the beginning of the pandemic to 1,046,132. It was the first country in Europe to beat the million-case mark on Wednesday.

Madrid remains the autonomous community with the highest number of new infections, with 2,027 new cases, which is why it has been in a state of emergency since 9 October.

Spain adds an additional 231 deaths to the official count, which means that the total figure is already around 34,752 deaths, according to this Friday’s balance sheet.

It should be taken into account that these data do not include those who died in nursing homes or who did not undergo the diagnostic test despite having symptoms compatible with the viral disease.

Italy

Italy has registered 19,143 infections with the new coronavirus in the past 24 hours, as well as 91 new fatalities, according to the Italian Ministry of Health.

Since the covid-19 pandemic appeared in the country on 21 February, there have been 484,869 infections, which have caused 37,059 deaths, according to Italian authorities.

The number of active cases in Italy is now 186,002, with 10,549 people being hospitalized, 855 more than on Thursday.

In turn, the number of inpatients in intensive care in the last 24 hours is 1,049, 57 more than the previous day.

The regions with the most cases detected on the last day were Lombardia with 4,916 daily infections, Campania with 2,280 new cases and Piemonte with 2,032 new infections.

United Kingdom

The UK has recorded 20,530 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the total to 830,998 since the pandemic began in the country, according to the British Ministry of Health.

With regard to deaths, 224 more were accounted for, currently totaling 44,571 fatalities.

There are an additional 7,706 patients hospitalized in the last 24 hours, of which 707 are in intensive care units. The total is 158,335.

Globally, the Covid-19 pandemic has infected more than 41.8 million people, causing more than 1.1 million fatalities, according to Johns Hopkins University in the United States.
