Italian would have been denied medical attention in the Urumita hospital for being a foreigner

An unusual case was presented last Tuesday at the Santa Cruz de Urumita Hospital, when a 78-year-old man of foreign nationality came seeking medical treatment for an infection in one of his legs and was denied care because it belonged to someone else. country.

This is Francisco Vigliote, a native of Napoli, Italy, who arrived in the municipality of Urumita last January before the pandemic began, accompanying his wife Luz Marina Rojas Ustáriz, who is a native of this town.

The couple arrived at the beginning of the year to visit the lady’s family and they were surprised by the pandemic in that town.

Luz Marina tells that she has been living in Italy for 40 years where she had two children and is now unable to leave Colombia due to the coronavirus issue.

For its part, the management of the Hospital Santa Cruz said that they will take corrective measures to resolve the impasse and prevent something like this from happening again. “All Colombian hospitals and health centers have a duty to care for anyone regardless of whether they are of another nationality, race or creed,” said a hospital spokesperson.
