Italian winter sports also at stake | Abroad

A total of twenty municipalities in South Tyrol are subject to a curfew between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Restaurants and bars must close at 6 p.m., and dance venues must also close by then. Hotels are exempt from the restrictions; they may remain open and serve the guests even after eight.

The new rules will come into effect on Wednesday, because the municipalities have been designated as a ‘red zone’. This can be for various reasons, but it all has to do with the sad corona figures in the country, although, just like in the Netherlands, there are a lot fewer people in hospital than in the same period last year.

Reporter Koen Nederhof explains what winter sports enthusiasts should take into account when skiing in the Alpine countries. This was recorded before Italy announced the new corona rules. Text continues below the video.

FFP2-mask

Until now, the Italians have applied less strict corona rules around the slopes, although the distance rules were mandatory. Now an FFP2 mask is mandatory in stores. In restaurants, a maximum of four people are allowed at a table.

The Italians are also in doubt about limiting the validity of vaccinations. Authorities want people to receive a booster five months after their second shot, and are considering limiting the validity of a QR code vaccination to 9 months, according to Italian media. The southern European country has so far counted more than 130,000 corona-related deaths, mainly people over 70.
