It is a feline, perhaps a lioness, estimates Isabelle Choain, mayor of the city. The police have been notified as well as the French Office for Biodiversity, which is due to visit the site again today.
“It would look more like a lioness, a lion cub. First seen 10 days ago, then filmed yesterday (Monday) at 3:22 p.m. and seen again this morning (mardi) around 10 a.m., the animal was walking along the railway line from Trith station to the Lepez de Prouvy garage.explains Antonio Sirna who filmed the animal and posted this message on his Facebook account.
For now, watch out for onlookers and the curious. There is no security perimeter around the site. “since the latter is not accessible to pedestrians”explains Isabelle Choain.
L’Office Français de la Biodiversité, which has been notified, came yesterday to try to locate and observe the animal as a first step. “His agents must return today”, explains the mayor of the town.
The unusual story is reminiscent of others. Near Auxi-le-Château, in October 2021, a feline was seen and even more impressive in June 2020, a panther was seen on the roofs, in town, in Armentières.
