According to her, Zaitseva is serving a sentence in the sector of the minimum security level – for those convicted of crimes due to negligence. In addition to her, there are 12 people in the sector, 11 of them were convicted of an accident.
“This is a sector with a separate entrance and its own exercise yard, a dining room, a shower room, and so on. Convicts can only move freely around their own yard, and so they are accompanied by junior inspectors – to work, to the bathhouse, to lunch, and so on,” – said Mitsyuk.
The convicts are allowed to use the Internet under the supervision of the administration, while they cannot visit prohibited sites and social networks. It is also allowed to communicate with relatives via Skype.
Since Zaitseva must pay compensation to victims and relatives of those killed in an accident, she is obliged to work. According to the head of the correctional center, she is listed at the Ukrainian embroidery section.
“They know about our institution, as well as that they can embroider from us, so they order products. For a month Zaitseva earns from 1.8 thousand to 3 thousand UAH, depending on the cost of the product,” Mitsyuk clarified.
According to her, mother and grandmother visit Zaitseva in the center. The convict did not receive any comments from the administration. According to Mitsyuk, “it is not noticeable, it is as if it is not in the zone.”
On October 18, 2017 Alena Zaitseva caused a large-scale accident in the center of Kharkov. Having flown through a red light in my Lexus, I crashed into a Volkswagen car at the intersection of Sumskaya and Mechnikov streets. As a result of the accident, 11 pedestrians were injured, six people died.
February 26, 2019 Kievsky District Court of Kharkiv found Zaitseva guilty of a fatal accident and sentenced her to a maximum term of 10 years in prison with a three-year disqualification from driving.
In the summer of 2020, the network appeared photos in which Alena Zaitseva sunbathes with a magazine on the territory of the colony. The reliability of the images was confirmed by the management of the correctional institution. The excellent conditions for the convict were explained by the fact that she is in the sector for those convicted of crimes through negligence.
