An article recently circulated on the Internet claiming that Zhao Shaokang embezzled NT$300 million from the 1994 Taipei mayoral campaign balance. He was condemned by Wang Jianxuan, the former chairman and former supervisory director of the New Party, and then quit the New Party. The Taiwan Fact Checking Center stated on the 1st that this is inconsistent with the facts.

Wang Minxu, spokesman for the Hou’s Office, issued a press release today stating that after Zhao Shaokang ran for mayor of Taipei on behalf of the New Party in 1994, the balance of campaign funds and subsidies totaled approximately 23 million yuan, which was a huge difference from the rumored 300 million yuan. The New Party has also issued a statement in the past that the remaining funds from the 1994 election were all used by the party headquarters, and therefore were not embezzled or misappropriated.

Wang Minxu said that after the Taipei mayoral election, Zhao Shaokang returned to the broadcasting career and gradually withdrew from New Party activities. He did not register as a member of the New Party in 2002. Zhao Shaokang explained in 2021 that he had no party membership because he had not registered with the new party, and applied to the Kuomintang to restore his membership. At that time, the new party also said that it was happy to see outstanding talents return to the Kuomintang, so there was no such thing as Wang Jianxuan blaming Zhao Shaokang for quitting the party. .

Wang Minxu said that he severely condemned false statements on the Internet and called on the public or netizens to stop spreading falsehoods and conducting political attacks with rumors.
