Corona test: It is already possible at these airports

Anyone flying to Germany from abroad can in future be tested for the coronavirus free of charge directly at the airport upon arrival. For those returning from risk areas, the corona test is even mandatory. From Saturday, August 8th, they have to be tested for the corona virus within 72 hours of their arrival in Germany. Alternatively, you can have the test carried out in your holiday country within 48 hours before departure.

Free corona tests at airports in North Rhine-Westphalia
North Rhine-Westphalia was one of the quickest to respond to the decision on test options. Since July 25th, travelers can visit the airports Düsseldorf and have Dortmund tested on Sars-CoV-2. This has also been possible at Münster / Osnabrück Airport since July 28th.
At Cologne / Bonn Airport, the state government has included the test center operated by the City of Cologne and Johanniter Unfallhilfe. So far, travelers have been able to get tested there at their own expense. There is now a test station for free corona tests between the P32 long-distance bus terminal and Terminal 2.

The costs for the corona tests are covered by the statutory health insurance companies. The tests are carried out by fee doctors and healthcare professionals. At Düsseldorf Airport, for example, two to three doctors carry out swabs in parallel, and the samples are sent to the laboratory four times a day. After three days, those returning from the trip can call up their test results online.
Free corona tests at Munich Airport
Even before the decision on July 24th, there was an opportunity for corona tests at Munich Airport. What is new, however, is that these are now free of charge for travelers. The test station is located on level 04 in the forum des Munich Airport Centers (MAC).
Free corona tests at Nuremberg and Memmingen airports
Since the evening of July 25th, travelers will find on Nuremberg Airport a test station, where you can get tested for the corona virus free of charge. The test station has been located between car park P3 and parking area P5 since August 3rd and can be visited by air travelers as long as flight operations are ongoing. In addition to those returning from risk areas, all other returning travelers can also be tested there.

In Saxony, all incoming passengers can have themselves tested free of charge at Leipzig / Halle and Dresden airports. In Leipzig / Halle, passengers will find the test center on the upper floor of the arrival / departure terminal, in Dresden the test station is on the arrival level in the terminal.
Corona tests at Frankfurt Airport
Am airport Frankfurt there are two options for corona tests in the transition between Terminal 1 and the long-distance train station. There, travelers returning from risk areas can have themselves tested for the coronavirus free of charge. Anyone who does not enter from a risk area is asked to have the corona test carried out by their family doctor, health department or hospital.
Free corona tests at the airports in Berlin
Also at the airports in the capital, Tegel and Schönefeld, travelers from risk areas can be tested for free. The corona test centers are open daily from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. At Schönefeld Airport, the test station is located in Terminal Area L, 2nd floor, entrance opposite the service point of the Federal / State Police. At Tegel Airport you can find it in Terminal A, across from Gates A00 and A08.
Free corona tests at Hamburg Airport
Am Hamburger Airport Travelers returning from risk areas are also to be tested for the corona virus this week. How do the corona tests work at airports?
As a rule, travelers do not have to register for the tests in advance, but can simply contact the test centers spontaneously. However, depending on the airport, there may be longer waiting times on weekends. Incidentally, people who come from non-risk countries can also voluntarily have themselves tested within 72 hours.
Travelers should bring their identification document and a mask to the tests. Since the test is usually carried out with a smear, you should not eat, drink or brush your teeth 15 minutes before the test.
What if I don’t want to be tested?
The corona tests are also mandatory for returnees from risk areas from August 8th. Those who refuse must expect that the mandatory test will be enforced by the police as a last resort with violence.
