It is planned to build two road transport technical inspection stations in Riga in the future

In Riga, after the transfer of road transport technical inspection services to private merchants, two car technical inspection stations are planned, said the representative of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD) Ieva Bērziņa.

At the same time, it is planned to establish car technical inspection stations in Smiltene and Līvāni.

This week, the government heard an informative report on the development of the technical inspection service for 2021-2030.

It states that, assuming that all stations will work eight hours a day only on weekdays, Latvia would need 116 conditional two-point technical inspection lines for vehicles with a gross vehicle weight of up to 3,500 kilograms, including 49 lines in Riga, five in Liepaja, Daugavpils and Jelgava. up to six lines, a further 10 regions require three to four lines, and 16 regions require one to two lines.

Thus, it is concluded that in each region the service can be fully provided by one inspection station, except for Riga, where two technical inspection stations are required. Currently, there are 12 lines at the Riga technical inspection station.

In addition to the existing number of technical inspection stations, stations would be established in Smiltene, Līvāni and an additional one in Rīga, thus there would be a total of 31 technical inspection stations in Latvia with 116 lines for passenger vehicles. Thus, compared to the existing number of conditional lines – 88, the number of conditional inspection lines will increase by approximately 30%.

In turn, technical inspection of freight transport is currently provided at 14 technical inspection stations. Initially, it was also planned to increase the number of cargo technical inspection stations by three stations, but the external audit has indicated that the average realized capacity at the existing number of stations is only 45% of the maximum, and any excess capacity will have a negative impact on service prices.
