About the festival:

The International Festival of Contemporary Art “Survival Kit” attracts more than 10,000 visitors annually and is one of the largest annual contemporary art events in the Baltics since 2009. It arose in response to Latvia, which was affected by the economic crisis, with the aim of encouraging society to respond to changes in today’s world and to rethink various survival strategies.

The Survival Kit is organized by the Latvian Center for Contemporary Art, which is the largest Latvian institution of contemporary art, curator and producer of international and national art events. Since 1993, it has been researching and shaping the processes of contemporary art in Latvia and internationally in order to provoke a critical reflection on the issues of modern society.

The project “Kommunalka-Community” is implemented by LLMC in cooperation with the Goethe Institute in Riga. The project is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Germany.
