“It is better to go abroad”: Werner denies Bayern

No other German player hits the Bundesliga as often as Leipzig’s Werner. Does he switch to Bayern? So far that was the question. Now he gives the answer himself – and exceptionally not on the pitch.

Soccer player Timo Werner does not want to switch to Bayern Munich. The striker from RB Leipzig told the “Bild” newspaper. “If a change should ever become an issue, I would rather take a step abroad than a change to Bavaria,” said the 24-year-old. Werner is also associated with the English Premier League leaders Liverpool FC – the team of coach Jürgen Klopp.

Werner said that the challenge in another country appealed to him “a little more” than a change within the Bundesliga. He would choose a club in which he would experience “maximum appreciation”. A change to the record champions was also an issue last year, but the Munich team canceled.

Werner’s contract near Leipzig runs until 2023. The Stuttgart native was switched to the Saxons by VfB in 2016 for 14 million euros. In the current season, he has already scored 21 goals. Only Munich’s Robert Lewandowski is in the list of goal scorers with 25 goals ahead of him. For the national team, Werner scored 11 times in 29 appearances.
