Istana: Cooking Oil Problem from Upstream to Downstream Will Be Solved : Okezone Economy

JAKARTA – The question of availability and price stability cooking oil continues to get the government’s attention.

Indonesian Presidential Chief of Staff Moeldoko said the cooking oil problem started with the increase in Crude Palm Oil (CPO) prices in the international market.

Seeing this phenomenon, the government through the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) made efforts to solve it holistically through Minister of Trade Regulation No. 6 of 2022.

From the upstream side, the government enforces the Domestic Market Obligation (DMO) and Domestic Price Obligation (DPO) policies.

“On the upstream side, this policy is expected to solve the problem of raw materials. While downstream, the determination of HET can reduce the burden on consumers,” said Moeldoko in his statement, Saturday (19/2/2022).

The implementation of the Ministry of Trade’s policy, according to Moeldoko, has had an impact on the availability and stability of cooking oil prices in the market, although it is still not as expected.

The former TNI Commander explained the results of monitoring the Presidential Staff Office team, which showed that cooking oil prices continued to fall even though the average was still above the Highest Retail Price (HET).

Cooking oil with HET, he said, is now also available in modern and traditional markets.

“The scarcity in several locations will continue to be overcome. The Ministry of Trade and producers are still communicating to resolve the issue,” replied Moeldoko.

For information, as of February 1, 2022, the government has set the HET for cooking oil with details, bulk cooking oil at Rp. 11,500 per liter, simple packaging at Rp. 13,500 per liter, and premium packaging at Rp. 14,000 per liter.

The government also enforces a DMO policy for all cooking oil exporters of 20 percent of their respective export volumes, DPO of Rp 9,300 per kilogram for CPO, and Rp 10,300 per kilogram for olein (refined from CPO for cooking oil as a basic ingredient).
