Israeli Army Spokesman Criticizes Video Clip Simulating Pilot Refusal Due to Controversial Judicial Amendments

The Israeli army spokesman criticized a video clip simulating the refusal of pilots to help ground forces because of its position on the judicial amendments that are causing widespread controversy in the Jewish state.

The video was widely circulated on the Internet, and even Israeli government ministers posted it on their accounts on social networks.

The Times of Israel quoted IDF Spokesman Daniel Hagari as saying:

The video aims to cause internal incitement in the army, and it must be condemned. He stressed that the army completely rejects all statements against officers and soldiers and stands by the reserve forces in the Air Force, as it has the best fighters and commanders. Camaraderie and self-sacrifice occur in all operational activities that bring together the Army’s air and ground forces.

What was in the video?

The video, filmed in a cinematic manner, shows soldiers engaged in armed clashes after being attacked by enemy forces. During these clashes, one of the soldiers asks the pilots to provide assistance, by bombing enemy areas. But the pilots ask whether the ground forces support the judicial amendments or not, before explosions occur among the soldiers, indicating that the pilots refused to help. Then, a dying soldier is seen saying: “Brothers of the Right and the Left, do not bring politics into the army.”

Ministers post the video

The publication of the video was not limited to ordinary social media pioneers in Israel, but also to ministers.

The Israeli Minister of National Security, Itar Ben Gvir, posted the video on his Facebook page. Culture Minister Miki Zohar posted the video on his Twitter account, but later deleted it.

Military and judicial amendments

A protest movement is growing within the IDF reservists, rejecting the judicial changes, especially in the air force. On Wednesday, hundreds of Israeli reservists marched in Tel Aviv, threatening to refuse voluntary service if Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government went ahead with its plan to curtail the powers of the judiciary. The reservists’ protests have drawn particular attention, with concerned senior defense officials warning that the protests pose a threat to national security.
