Israel Strikes Jebaliya Refugee Camp in Attempt to Eliminate Hamas Commander: IDF Spokesman

Israel Defense Forces (IDF) spokesman Richard Hecht confirmed that Israel struck the Jebaliya refugee camp in an attempt to kill a Hamas commander. reports October 31 CNN. Hecht explained the deaths of civilians as a “tragedy of war.”

Earlier, Gaza authorities said that Israeli airstrikes on the Jebaliya refugee camp killed and wounded at least 400 people.

Hecht told CNN that the target of the airstrike on the Jabaliya refugee camp in the Gaza Strip was a Hamas commander who was “hiding behind civilians.”

“This is a tragedy of war,” Hecht responded to a reporter’s question about the deaths of refugees.

Let us recall that earlier on Tuesday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the transition to the third stage of the war with Hamas.

“We are in the thick of war. We have set ourselves a clear goal of destroying Hamas’ military and administrative capabilities. We do this systematically,” Netanyahu said.

The first stage – blocking – has been completed. The second stage continues – air strikes. The third phase has begun: the Israeli army expands its ground invasion of the Gaza Strip. Additional infantry, armored and engineer forces are being introduced “to continue coordinated operations on land, air and sea.”

Let us remind you that the conflict in the Middle East escalated on the morning of October 7 after a large-scale rocket attack from the Gaza Strip on Israel and the penetration of Hamas fighters into the border areas. In response, the Israel Defense Forces launched Operation Iron Swords in the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli military took control of all settlements near the border with Gaza and began carrying out airstrikes on targets in the strip, including civilians.
