Israel on High Alert After Assassination of Hamas Deputy Chairman Saleh Al-Arouri

Press reports revealed a state of “security alert” inside Israel, following the assassination of Hamas Deputy Chairman Saleh Al-Arouri.

The senior Hamas leader was assassinated by an Israeli air strike on Tuesday, targeting the movement’s office in the southern suburb of Beirut, according to what Hamas and a Lebanese security source announced.

According to a report by the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation (KAN), police officers in various directorates in Israel were instructed on Tuesday evening to “increase vigilance in anticipation of attacks following the assassination of Al-Arouri.”

There are also “special preparations in the Magen David Adom (the official medical body) throughout the country,” according to the authority.

“The level of readiness remains as high as it has been since the beginning of the war, and at this stage no additional mobilization of forces has taken place,” Kan said.

She explained: “Tonight, the war government will meet to hold a discussion that was arranged in advance, and the meeting was scheduled to address the situation in the Gaza Strip after the war, but in light of Al-Arouri’s assassination, it is expected that those present will also get a glimpse of the various developments on the battlefields of the south (Front Gaza) to the north (Lebanon front) of senior security officials.”

Kan announced that Israel is “preparing to respond from the north and from Gaza as well” to Al-Arouri’s assassination.

She explained, “Whoever took the decision to assassinate Al-Arouri took into account that there would be a response, and was prepared for all possibilities: a limited response or a comprehensive war.”

The Israeli army did not claim responsibility for the strike carried out by a drone in the southern suburb of Beirut, but it confirmed that it was prepared for “all scenarios” after Al-Arouri’s killing.

Hezbollah considered Al-Arouri’s assassination a “dangerous attack on Lebanon” and said that it “will never pass without response and punishment.”

The head of Hamas’s political bureau, Ismail Haniyeh, also confirmed that the movement “will never be defeated” after the assassination of the prominent leader.
