Senior analyst Chen Xiangzhou pointed out in a Facebook post that analysis from three levels, namely the shareholding ratio, the company’s operating decisions and the number of shareholders, two of which can prove that TSMC is indeed a Taiwanese company.
He said that, first of all, from the perspective of “shareholding ratio”, foreign capital is indeed the nominal boss and accounts for the vast majority. However, these foreign capitals are usually institutional legal persons, and behind them represent funds from all over the world. Funds are mainly financial investments and have not been involved in operations.
From the perspective of “actual control of business decisions,” TSMC’s board of directors has ten directors, including six independent directors. In addition to the chairman and the president, there is one director and one representative from the National Development Fund, most of whom are Taiwanese. From this perspective, TSMC is undoubtedly a Taiwanese company.
In addition, if we look at the “number of shareholders”, since the opening of odd shares trading in 109, the number of TSMC retail accounts has soared since then. At present, the total number of shareholders of TSMC is approaching 800,000, of which 790,000 are Taiwanese retail investors, so if you look at it from the “head”, the retail investors are more like TSMC bosses.
