KAMAZ is going to release a competitor for NEXT Gazelle.
KAMAZ intends to oust NEXT Gazelle in the niche of light commercial vehicles. In the line called “Compass” there will be 4 models of different weights: 3.5, 5, 8 and 12 tons. The first 2 will compete with both standard and enhanced NEXT Gazelle models, while the rest will be similar to GAZon Next.
These trucks are equipped with a cabless cab and a frame with straight profile side members. It is possible that the car cabin itself will be from the Chinese JAC N-Series models.
Machines weighing 8 and 12 tons will be equipped with 4.5 and 6.7 liter Cummins ISBe turbodiesels. What will be equipped with lighter versions is still unknown. Probably they will install engines of 2.8 liters Cummins ISF.
In addition to diesel versions, there will be experimental cars with electric power units and an autopilot system.
Is KAMAZ Compass awaiting success on the Russian market? Rather yes than no. Since the car will be in demand anyway. This car will have to meet the requirements of motorists, otherwise, what should he do here. Perhaps the novelty will be the “Gazelle Killer”, but time will tell. They want to conduct a test assembly in 2020. The release date for the models is expected to be in 2021–2022, but the timing may move due to changes in the economic situation.
