The curettage procedure can be performed on mothers who have miscarried early in pregnancy. Then is it safe to have sex after undergoing this curettage, Mother?
Please note, curettage is another term for Dilation and Curettage (D&C). According to the American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), this is a surgical procedure in which the cervix is opened (dilation) and a thin device is inserted into the uterus.
ACOG explains that this inserted tool is used to remove tissue in the uterus (curettage).
A similar definition was also explained by the Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialist at Eka Hospital Cibubur, dr. Alexander Mukti, Sp.OG. According to Alex, a curette is generally used to remove pregnancy tissue in the first trimester due to a miscarriage.
“A curettage is a medical procedure performed to help remove tissue from the uterus,” he told Hai Bundarecently.
The curette procedure can only be done by professionals, Mother. During the process, the patient will be anesthetized, so they will not feel pain.
Have sex after the curettage
Mother can have sex after curette. However, it is necessary to wait until the puerperium ends. The puerperium is a recovery period, during which the uterus removes excess tissue from pregnancy.
“After undergoing a curettage, to be precise after the postpartum period, women can return to sexual intercourse,” said Alex.
“But if you feel worried, Mother can consult a doctor, especially to restart the pregnancy program after a miscarriage,” continued this doctor who graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Indonesia.
