Is drinking hot tea in the summer harmful to the body?

It has been proven that drinking hot tea in the summer does not raise the body temperature as many believe, but rather helps to cool it, and this explains the reason for its wide popularity in hot regions, such as India, according to the “Express” website.

One of the studies revealed that the body after consuming warm drinks, especially tea, has less heat storage, in contrast to what happens to it after sipping cold liquids.

Nerves in the mouth and upper digestive tract respond to the heat of the tea, activating a sensor in the brain to produce more sweat.

And when the sweat secreted by the pores of the skin evaporates, the body temperature begins to drop, which contributes to the feeling of coldness.

Another study had similar results. Researchers found that cyclists’ bodies stored more heat after drinking a cold drink than after drinking a warm drink.

However, Dr. Waad Amin, a clinical nutritionist, recommended consuming tea in the summer in moderation, because excessive consumption increases the risk of dehydration.

Waad attributed the cause of dehydration when drinking too much tea to its high caffeine content, which leads to a lack of fluids in the body, due to its diuretic properties.

The nutritionist appealed to tea lovers not to drink more than two cups a day, with the need to drink it two hours after consuming meals, to prevent anemia.
