Iran’s Parliament Backs Uranium Enrichment Near …

TEHERAN – Parliament Iran endorsing a Bill (RUU) to increase uranium enrichment close to the level required for nuclear weapons.

The bill also ignores various other obstacles to Iran’s nuclear program as set out in the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers.

However, the government immediately said the move could not change Iran’s nuclear policy which is the domain of the Supreme National Security Council.

The bill was proposed in response to Friday’s assassination of the Iranian nuclear scientist. (Also Read: Fear of Iranian Response, Israel Warns Its Diplomats Around the World)

“Death to America! Death to Israel! ”Shouted several lawmakers in support of the draft bill at its first reading during the trial which was broadcast live on radio. (See Infographic: Slipped, President-Elect Joe Biden Has Broken Leg)

Parliament has frequently demanded a tough stance on Iran on the nuclear issue in recent years, but those efforts have not been successful. (See Video: DKI Governor Anies Baswedan Confirmed Positive Covid-19)

In this regard, the government must decide whether a crackdown on Friday’s assassination of nuclear scientist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh could jeopardize prospects of improving relations with the United States after Joe Biden took over from Donald Trump.
