Iran Nuclear Deal: Like Israel, US Finds It “Not Strict Enough” (ex-Ambassador)

“We need a stronger, broader and longer term agreement” (Gilad Erdan)

Israeli Ambassador to the United Nations Gilad Erdan said in an interview in Florida on Thursday that the Biden administration effectively agreed with Israel on the principle that the 2015 agreement did not prevent Tehran to acquire nuclear weapons.

“I am delighted to see that now even the Biden administration, several of whom are on the team that crafted the 2015 accord, join us in saying we need a stronger, broader deal. and longer term, “said Erdan, who until last month was also Israel’s ambassador to the United States.

“This means that the old agreement, signed when Barak Obama was in power, does not block Iran in its race to obtain nuclear weapons,” he told the occasion of the national summit of the Israeli-American Council in Florida.

The ambassador explained that Iran has no interest in negotiating a tougher deal that would limit its nuclear program and activities in the region.

“Once the sanctions are lifted, the United States will no longer have any leverage effect against Tehran,” he warned.

Joe Biden has declared that he is fully committed so that Iran can never acquire nuclear weapons, while assuming that he prefers a diplomatic solution.

However, President Biden stressed that all options would be on the table in the event that negotiations between Iran and international powers, currently underway in Vienna, fail.
