Today in Iran we commemorated the bombing in the city of Kerman. Dozens of coffins draped in the Iranian flag were lined up at a memorial ceremony attended by relatives and others.
According to Iranian authorities, Wednesday’s attacks took place 89 people died and more than 200 people were injured. Terror group IS claimed yesterday to be behind the double suicide bombing.
The Iranian government reported today that suspects have been arrested in several provinces in the country. It is unclear how many people are involved. Authorities also reported that one of the attackers had Tajik nationality. The nationality of the second person is not yet known.
No proof
In speeches at the commemoration of the victims, Iranian President Raisi and the top general of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard linked the attacks to the United States and Israel, although they did not provide any evidence for this. In response to their words, the crowd at the memorial chanted “revenge,” “death to America” and “death to Israel,” Iranian state television showed.
Wednesday’s bombing took place not far from a cemetery where a memorial ceremony for Iranian general Qassem Soleimani was underway. Four years ago he was killed by a US missile strike. According to Iranian authorities, two bombs went off in the crowd at the memorial ceremony.
