iPhone 9, iPad Pro, AirTag, Apple TV: what iOS 14 teaches us about future Apple devices

The next version of iOS should not be revealed until next June during WWDC. However, thanks to 9to5mac, we are able to take advantage of some information, in particular on the future products planned for this year.

The next major version of Apple’s mobile OS is still a few months from its presentation, but that does not prevent us from already gathering information about it. The American site 9to5mac has thus managed to get hold of bits of code from iOS 14 which are not stingy with information since they suggest four products still unknown.

Hardware brought up to date

This first batch of information does not really bring us any real news concerning the next iPhone of the firm with the apple, in charge of succeeding the SE model: the iPhone 9. At most we know that this piece of code corroborates well the previous rumors that we have relayed so far. The smartphone will take on the design of the iPhone 8 well and will therefore carry Touch ID. The fingerprint unlock solution will not evolve an iota. 9to5mac mentions compatibility with Express Transport, a contactless payment solution for transport tickets. Unknown in France since the transport networks are not compatible, it is a very practical way to use them abroad. Appeared with the iPhone 6S, Apple clearly targets iPhone 6 users for this iPhone 9.

Chance Miller, the reporter for 9to5mac, reports that the new iPhone model should be released this spring. But in view of the development of the coronavirus, this date could be postponed. Apple has yet to announce the date of its conference – which is rumored to be was scheduled for March 31 -, our patience could be required before getting our hands on it.

The discovery of the American site also confirms what was said about the future iPad Pro. The next Apple tablet should have a triple photo sensor on the back, identical to the iPhone. A device that will make this iPad the first tactile slate to offer three sensors. For the configuration, Chance Miller indicates that we would be entitled to an ultra wide-angle sensor and a telephoto lens in addition to the main sensor. In addition, a Time of Flight sensor would be especially practical for augmented reality (AR), an area on which Apple has been working a lot for the past few years. Besides, it is rumored that for iOS 14, the firm is developing a new app totally dedicated to AR.

New Apple TV and return of AirTag

The first insertions in the code of iOS 14 also reveal the presentation in 2020 of a new TV box, as well as a new generation remote control. The latest version was released in November 2017, but is just a simple evolution of the fourth which already dates from the end of 2015, 4K as a bonus. In 2020, Apple could therefore offer a new design to its Apple TV. As for the remote control, it would be completely different from the Apple TV Remote – which does not offer the best user experience, in addition to being expensive. This new generation of the TV box would also be accompanied by a new sports training application where your television would act as a trainer.

Finally, the latest little information focuses on the AirTag. According to iOS 14, the trackers will activate via an iPhone (logical), a bit like AirPods, for example. Good news, they will have a small battery (a priori plate) which can be changed easily. For recent iPhone users, it would even be possible to locate their AirTag using augmented reality. A solution which in the idea seems welcome, but we ask to see.
