‘iPhone 12 with fastest 5G version is not coming to the Netherlands’

In a few weeks, Apple will unveil its new one iPhone 12models. Perhaps the most important innovation this year is the support of 5G. But only one of the models may have the mmWave version, the fastest form of 5G. And it does not look like this version is coming to the Netherlands.

iPhone 12 mmWave

The rumor is reported by Fast Company. The website states that the fastest form of 5G with mmWave technology is limited to Apple’s largest and most expensive iPhone: the 6.7-inch iPhone Pro Max.

Fast Company also thinks that the iPhone 12 Pro Max with mmWave (millimeter wave) will only be sold in the United States, South Korea and Japan, as most countries hardly have a mmWave network. Indeed, neither is the Netherlands. Apple would also have to make choices due to production problems.

For the time being, an iPhone with mmWave would also be of little use. Dutch providers are expected to start using the millimeter wave version in 2021 or 2022. Still, it’s a shame, because a new iPhone will last for many years. In 2022, you’ll be disappointed if your iPhone 12 doesn’t reach those speeds.

But what will come next?

An iPhone 12 that can connect to lower 5G frequencies: Sub-6 GHz. This network is slightly faster than 4G, but slower than mmWave. Yet it also has advantages. Its range is wider and more stable, making it more suitable for densely populated areas. In addition, the signal – unlike mmWave – knows how to penetrate walls well.

Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo previously reported that the mmWave 5G iPhones are being delayed due to production problems. It is quite possible that this will affect the release date. There have also been rumors that the Pro models will not be available until November. The two cheaper iPhone 12 devices are expected in October.

We will probably know more soon, because in a few weeks Apple will present the iPhone 12 models. Do you want to stay informed of developments? Sign up for our newsletter:
