iPhone 12 has European CE mark on the side

Logos European CE mark on the side of iPhone 12

Of iPhone 12 has a brand new design for the first time in years. Instead of the rounded edges, the sides are now completely flat. On the side of the American iPhone 12 has a mmWave patch, which makes for the faster 5G range. This has a slightly different color, which makes the side stand out a bit more. On the European models, the side is completely uniform in color, but we do find something else striking there. Apple has moved the mandatory European hallmarks from the back to the side.

Electronic devices sold in Europe are still required to place the CE logo on the device itself. The trash can with the cross is also mandatory, to emphasize that you cannot just throw it away. In the US it is no longer necessary to place this on the device itself since 2014, because such logos and symbols can also be consulted via the settings of the device. As a result, you will find nothing other than the Apple logo on the American iPhones. On the European iPhone 11 Promodels, the quality marks are much less noticeable, because the frosted glass masks the logos. It is therefore all the more unfortunate that Apple has now moved the logos to a slightly more striking place.

On the iPhone 12 in iPhone 12 Pro we now find the logos on the side, bottom right of the device. Because the symbols are engraved directly into the aluminum and stainless steel, instead of under a glass plate, the logos stand out more. If you put a case on the iPhone you will of course not see it anymore. The photo below shows you how Apple the quality marks on the iPhone 11 Pro processed.

As far as we are concerned, it is time for the European rules for such symbols to be adjusted, so that it is sufficient (as in the US) to make them visible only through the institutions. What do you think of the new location for the logos? Let us know in the comments.
