While Samsung and Apple are knifing about the most sold smartphones worldwide, there is no doubt that it is Apple as leader in tablet market. Apple, with its various iPad models, has more than twice the market share of Samsung.

But the Korean electronics giant has really taken up the fight with its commitment to tablets in recent years, which is constantly getting better and better. It’s about f.ex. Galaxy Tab S6 from 2019, and of course the absolute top model Samsung Galaxy Tab S7+ from 2020, we gave both 6 stars and our special recommendation on our test.

And now Samsung is back on track with a new series of three new tablets, which they launched today at the virtual Galaxy Unpacked event.

The most interesting is the new Ultra edition of Samsung’s latest Galaxy Tab S8 tablet.

It comes with a 14.6″ display, which makes it bigger than most laptops, and offers WQXGA+ resolution (2960 x 1848). The display is an S-AMOLED and, like all the new models in the Galaxy S22 series, has a refresh rate of 120 Hz. But the refresh rate is not dynamic, as on the new smartphones.

On the other hand, it has the same armor alumium material, and it measures only 5.5″, which makes it almost so thin that you can cut yourself on it.

It is powered by Android 12 and Samsung’s Exynos 2200 processor.

The battery is 11200 mAh, and in addition to fast charging up to 45W, the Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra also supports the ability to function as a kind of powerbank, as one can use the tablet to quickly charge a Samsung Galaxy S22 phone via USB.

The Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra comes with two camera lenses – 13 MP front and 6 MP ultra – wide angle on the back, 12 + 12 MP ultra-wide angle on the front-and is available in different configurations respectively. 8, 12 and 16 GB of RAM and 128, 256 or 512 GB of storage, which can be expanded with 1 TB of microSD card.

New tricks like the iPad Pro

Like Samsung’s best tablet from 2020, the entire Galaxy Tab S8 series comes with the option of 5G, and in this case the three tablets also have Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2. The tab S8 has a fingerprint reader built into a button on the side, while the tab S8+ and Tab S8 Ultra come with fingerprint reader built into the screen.

All three come with the S-Pen, and Samsung has also “borrowed” a feature that we’re familiar with on Apple’s latest iPads.

It’s the feature Samsung calls Auto Framing, which Apple users know as Center Stage. Here, artificial intelligence and the tablet’s front camera are used to follow the person talking while on a video call.

If you are in the middle of the picture, you are followed to the right and left as you move. And with the help of AI, the three directional microphones and noise-cancelling technology ensure that the interlocutor always hears what they say.

We look forward to trying it in practice.

All tablets in the new Galaxy Tab S8 series also support the so-called Collaboration View, which connects between the Galaxy S22 mobile and a tablet from The Tab S8 series. Once the connection is established, the mobile phone can be used as a touchpad, then to navigate menus and select or adjust various functions, all while drawing on the screen with its S-Pen.
