The US has announced that it will sanction the Turkish SSB and four top officials over “ties” with the defense and intelligence sectors Russia .

The Turkish Defense Industry Presidency is a civilian institution established by the Turkish government which aims to manage the country’s defense industry and supply of military technology.

The US does not welcome defense and intelligence cooperation between Turkey and Russia. In particular, Ankara’s move to acquire a Russian-made S-400 air defense missile system has drawn criticism from Washington, with the US threatening to impose sanctions on Turkey over the decision.

Despite the threat of US sanctions, Ankara has refused to ditch the S-400 missile defense system and continues to negotiate with Moscow on a second force air defense weapon. Russia’s state-owned arms exporter has expressed confidence that Turkey will not succumb to pressure from Washington.
