VIEW: Valon Behrami, what was it like to wear the Genoa jersey again after 16 years? Valon Behrami: It was wonderful to be able to return to where I started my career and where a long journey started after this long time. But of course I have changed a lot as a person. And have seen my return in a calmer way than when I was a young player.

What is your role in the next few weeks? Have you been brought in mainly because of their routine and fighting strength? I was brought in because I know what the coach wants. I know what it means to wear the Genoa historical jersey. And in the club you know what I can do in this relegation battle on the field and in the dressing room.
–
Are there still people in the club who were there in 2003? Yes, very many. And they remember the young Behrami with joy, I can feel that. It’s nice to see you again after so long. And the many familiar faces made it easier for me to join the club and the team.
–
You have already brought about a change. The win over Sassuolo was vital, wasn’t it? I think that in our situation every game is essential for survival. Clearly with this victory we got some courage and confidence. But it’s only a small step. We’re going to have a cup game week after week in this relegation battle.
–
After the unfortunate end in Sion, would you have thought of standing in Serie A again? By canceling the contract in Sion, I made the right decision. I am a certain age, but I am not one who contracts to steal money. I have to be convinced of a project. Yes, I always hoped to make it back to Serie A. I worked with my fitness coach every day. And every time I woke up in the morning, my return to Serie A was my motivation.
–
Is relegation with Genoa the last major goal of Valon Behrami? Relegation is the goal that keeps me alive. I am a player who always needs clear challenges and goals to fight and get the best out of me.
–
Does your contract with league maintenance extend for another year? Yes, I have such a clause. But now I want to take it step by step and work hard. We then see how my body reacts. But if we make it into the league and I feel healthy and fit, then it’s not over in the summer.
