Intersection suddenly blocked with bollards: city forces drivers to park!

Parking spaces have been canceled along the Ost cycle route in Dresden. Now an alternative parking lot could also be abolished because drivers should turn there.

Dresden – The city in the east of Dresden has been building for a good month on her first cycle route. In the future, cyclists should be able to get to the city center faster and, above all, more safely. So that this really succeeds, bollards were set up in the middle of two intersections on Lauensteiner Straße in Striesen.

Motorists cannot enter or exit the cycle route there if they are already on it.

What sounds like a great solution, however, also causes problems. If you are on Lauensteiner Strasse and want to go to Schandauer Strasse, the city will now guide you to turn onto a small gravel lot where residents can park their cars.

Since around 50 parking spaces on Kipsdorfer Strasse were cleared to prevent cyclists from being hit by vehicles leaving the parking space, this small parking lot has become all the more important for the people of Striesen. Now it should be turned there.

When asked by TAG24 in the town hall, the head of the road and civil engineering office, Simone Prüfer (57), explained that it could soon have been parked on the square between Lauensteiner Straße and Landgraben!

The use of the road stump is “only tolerated”. If the bizarrely guided motorists have problems turning there, “it may have to be readjusted”.

According to the head of the building authority, the ten parking spaces could then also be eliminated. It is also in the room whether the recycling containers will be moved.

A new traffic sign installed at the intersection of Lauensteiner-/Zinnwalder Straße makes it clear that motorists have to turn around at this point.

It is a dead end sign, indicating that cyclists and pedestrians can go further than motorists.

Because unlike the latter, cyclists are allowed to drive between the bollards. The construction work at the crossings did not result in any restrictions for pedestrians.

Incidentally, “due to existing reserves in the area”, all parking spaces on Kipsdorfer-, Lauensteiner- and Glashütter Straße should not be compensated. Residents now have to be prepared for longer walks.

For the time being, other crossings along the East Cycle Route should not be blocked with bollards for motorists.
