The international pianist from Reunion, William Mendelbaum, reaches new heights. He will perform on March 17 in the prestigious New York concert hall.

William Mendelbaum discovered the piano as a child, around the age of 7 or 8. He learned for a year before stopping. As a teenager, the Reunionese got back into it and never stopped. “At the age of 15, I started again. (…) Then I played every evening in the university bar to pay for my piano lessons“, he remembers. After training at the School of Contemporary Music in Saint-Leu, the pianist exported his music to New York and Paris, took part in competitions, played in festivals and for two years has been performing internationally.
After playing at the Montreux Jazz Festival last year, William Mendelbaum is preparing to experience one of the greatest moments of his career. The international pianist will perform at Carnegie Hall, the temple of jazz, a famous New York concert hall which has hosted big names such as John Coltrane, the Rolling Stones, The Doors, Elton John, David Bowie, Stevie Wonder, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Charles Aznavour and Maurice Ravel.
Still in New York, the talent of the Réunionnais will also be highlighted at Lincoln Center on March 23, then on March 25 at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam.
“These are three exceptional places, really great opportunities for me. These are invitations to perform having won very high level international piano competitions (…) It is one more dream that comes true (…) and it is a pride to represent Reunion in the most prestigious rooms in the world”, he confides.
William Mendelbaum, who travels back and forth between Reunion and the rest of the world, intends to continue to surpass himself, with festivals already planned soon.
