The world celebrates on November 25 every year On International Day of Violence against Women, Circumcision is one of the forms of violence against women, during which part of the girls’ genital organs is removed, and this poses a threat to their psychological and physical health.

Dr. Dalia Ayman, a consultant in obstetrics and gynecology at Kasr Al-Aini Faculty of Medicine, confirmed that circumcision is one of the things that causes immediate and long-term psychological and physical problems for women.

She pointed out that the psychological impact of circumcision causes them to feel constant fear and anxiety and a loss of self-confidence, in addition to a feeling of oppression because the feeling of women who have undergone circumcision makes them feel that they have lost part of their body. The reason that society has analyzed is that this preserves their chastity, believing that the part that has been circumcised is Removing it is one of the places of arousal, but the truth is that there are other centers of arousal for a woman inside the vagina.

The obstetrics and gynecology consultant added that circumcision causes a very clear impact on the marital relationship afterwards, as it leads to fear of marital intercourse and vaginismus.

Dalia explained that the health and physical impact of circumcision on women is divided into two parts: immediate problems and long-term problems, pointing out that the immediate problems are:

-Severe pain in the area of her reproductive system that was removed.

– Severe bleeding may sometimes lead to the loss of a large amount of blood, which exposes them to death.

-Swelling in the reproductive tissues.

– An infection occurs.

-High body temperature.

– Exposure to severe infections in the wound.

They are often exposed to urinary tract problems such as urinary retention.

-Exposure to problems with wound healing.

Ayman pointed out that the long-term problems that women face after circumcision are:

-Problems and complications with the urinary tract, such as severe infections that may lead to urinary incontinence.

-Vaginal infections.

-Deformities in the external genital organs.

-Sexual problems, such as pain during intercourse, vaginismus, and lack of desire for marital relations because of the pain you feel.
