The car is not an option
An alternative such as the car is often not available for people with disabilities. After all, they cannot lead themselves and depend on others.
Already in May of this year there were problems for people with disabilities in NS stations. Back then, the elevators were broken much longer than usual in the event of a breakdown. Due to delivery issues of various parts, it sometimes took weeks or several months for an elevator to be repaired.
Now traveling by train is very complicated for people with disabilities, and in fact almost impossible, says Elke (in), the interest group for people with physical disabilities. In “normal” times, these people already need help getting in and out. And that’s exactly what’s missing now. Help is often absent due to staff shortages.
The interest group believes that people with disabilities are particularly affected and miss appointments with family, work or care.
